The Netherlands' citation landscape centers on two directories, Telefoonboek.nl and Goudengids.nl, plus the KVK Handelsregister, the official national business register that every Dutch company is legally required to join. Unlike some countries where the government registry is a nice-to-have consistency check, the KVK number is a legal requirement, which makes this the one entry on this list that isn't optional in any sense. Consistency across all three matters most in Amsterdam and Rotterdam, the two markets where local search competition is highest.
How this list was compiled
Each entry here went through a two-source check before being added, cross-referenced against the site itself where a live page could be confirmed. A handful of directories that show up in older Dutch citation-building lists (detelefoongids.nl, oozo.nl, bedrijvengids.nl as a standalone site) couldn't be confirmed as currently active during this research pass, and were left off rather than included on the strength of outdated advice. This list is shorter than the France or Spain lists on this site as a result; it will be extended once those gaps are properly verified rather than filled with guesses now.

Both. Registration is legally mandatory for any Dutch business, but the Handelsregister entry also functions as one of the most authoritative NAP references any Dutch citation gets checked against.
Why is this list shorter than the ones for France or Spain?
Because several commonly cited Dutch directories couldn't be confirmed as currently active sites during this research pass. Rather than pad the list with names that couldn't be verified, the shorter, accurate list is the honest option, with more entries to follow once they're properly checked.
Does a Dutch business need Werkspot if it isn't a trades business?
